The founder of Capital Project Strategies, Mike Loulakis, has long believed that it is critical for experienced people to contribute to the body of knowledge in the construction industry and to “give something back" to the industry. In light of this, we have established research as a fundamental and significant aspect of our business. The reality is that research helps us to stay current with industry trends and best practices, which increases our ability to be effective consultants and assist clients on their programs, projects, and business processes.
We are currently part of several research teams with university and construction association partners, focused on specific areas of importance and interest to the construction industry. Assignments to date include:
- Analyzing Indefinite Delivery and Indefinite Quantity contracting practices in the transportation sector.
- Examining alliance contracting and its role in the evolving field of alternative project delivery.
- Researching the legal issues involving surety on public transportation laws (which resulted in a paper that was awarded the John C. Vance Award for an outstanding work that advances the study, understanding, and implementation of transportation law).
- Conducting research into long-term performance guarantees in the transportation sector.
- Evaluating current standard form contracts and risk management issues for the insurance industry.
- Developing contracting guides and standard form contracts for a professional construction association.
- Evaluating best value approaches in public sector design-build and at-risk construction management procurement.
